Welcome to the Ninth Precinct Community Council’s Website. This website is intended to be informative and serve as a resource to the community.
I encourage you to take advantage of the information offered.
The Ninth Precinct is committed to working together with the community in order to Reduce crime, Improve the overall quality of life with in our community, and build better Community relations.
In my opinion the most effective tool we have to accomplish these goals are to keep open existing lines of communication as well as establish new one.
The Ninth Precinct can better serve the community if we are kept informed about the condition’s that concern the community. The information we gain from you enables the Ninth Precinct to better serve the community by directing the necessary resources at the problem brought to our attention. It is difficult to address the problems that we may not be aware exist. We need your input in order to continue to make this community a great place to live, work and entertain.
The monthly Ninth Precinct Community Council meetings are a great place to express your concerns, speak directly to members of the Ninth Precinct, and meet other members of the community.
I encourage you to attend these meetings and see first hand how a strong community can accomplish much more by working together .

The 9th Precinct sponsored a blood drive at the station house ,the event collected 40 Pints of Blood, which since been separated into their componets and distributed to patients in hospitals throught out the area.
Next Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 7am to 5pm at the 9thPrecinct located at 321 East 5th Street between 1st -2nd Avenue , 2nd Floor

Jerry Shea welcomed everyone and offered information about the Source newsletter
Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lehr gave a brief report on the Precinct Crime stats. He stated that violent crimes such as felonious assaults are down 12 1/2%.Crimes regarding property like robbery, grand larceny, burglary are up and continue to be a challenge. Deputy Inspector Lehr stressed that people need to be more mindful of their property because in addition to the property being stolen, i.e., Laptops, devices containing personal information can be taken, information like social security numbers ,bank accounts can be obtain from these devices. People need to be vigilant in watching and be aware when they are in coffee shops, bars and restaurants make sure vehicles are secure and no purse or wallets or any valuables can be seen.
Police Officer Gibbons was introduced and offer FREE surveys for residential and business properties
A resident from Ave. A and 12th, street, thanked the Precinct for enforcing the quality of life issues from an establishment near his home. Deputy Inspector Lehr explains it was a joint effort with Dept. of Buildings and FDNY. The establishment will continue to be monitor.
The manger from Webster Hall Invited the community to a forum on Wednesday, February 24, at 6 PM to discuss any concerns the community may have.
A resident thanked the precinct for addressing the problems from the bar near him. Lt Ferguson explained that the establishment was cited for violations. Another resident asked about the Cabaret unit he wanted to know if phone number was still active. Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lehr assured everyone that it was.
One resident talked about the negligent Bicycle riding on sidewalks and streets, with disregard for traffic lights and pedestrian, Captain Simonetti stated that those violation would be strictly enforce in the following weeks. He also give an update on the traffic camera’s explaining that due to city budget cuts at this time there may not be any new cameras installed.
A resident of Avenue A and 9th Street, Complained about Jazz bands and solo sax players playing and annoying the residents which sometimes start at 8:30 am. This is coupled by CD”S being sold. Det. Hernandez is familiar with the situation and said that since they are not using amplified sound, there is nothing they can do to regulate the sound level .It was suggested to call parks department and complaint to have Parks Enforcement Officers address condition. Another resident spoke about a similar situation at St. Marks and 2nd. Avenue.
A resident on10th Street expressed concern about a daytime burglary. She wanted to know if mail carriers allow anybody in to the location without inquiring if they are a resident of that location when they are delivering the mail. She was referred to the local post office.
Ada Linda Janneth gives a brief presentation about a summer internship program offered to junior and senior high students.
A resident inquired if a restaurant which starts to clean up in the late afternoon and 5 am was in violation of any quality of life issue, Lt Ferguson stated they follow up to see if there was any violation.
